about the artist...
In practising art, I have always had a fascination with the ‘found object, it’s colour, texture, shape and intrinsic history. Combined with that, what really drives me, is a passion for the environment, especially the endangered natural world, and so my themes tend to be environmentally based and to bring awareness of it’s blight. My theme of concern at the moment is the declining health of our oceans and I am making art from the single use plastics I pick up at the tide line.
My work method involves arranging and fixing these found objects onto boards, much like collage though with more relief in it’s profile. The overall style is abstract and is based on a mix of urban and landscape imagery.
behind the artwork...
We live in an age of exponential technological growth and an ever increasing population that is having a huge, and often detrimental impact on our earth. We need to find long term, workable living solutions to minimize this inevitable impact by addressing key issues of the way we live, how we live, what we live for and what we produce to live that way.
These are fundamentally important ongoing lifestyle questions that need to be, and can be, constantly updated, improved and sustainably realized. Today, more than ever, we live in an age where we can more easily access the kind of knowledge, technology and solutions necessary to create, and maintain a more sustainable, healthy and nurturing way of living for all life on earth.
